ASTHMA Asthma is caused by a narrowing of the respiratory passages and is therefore due to obstruction of air flow into and out of the lungs. During an asthmatic crisis [asthma attack] - usually at night and preceded by sneezes, ninny nose, coughs and headaches - breathing is impaired. Breathing in is shallow; breathing out, slow and difficult.
Asthma may be dry (no phlegm, non-productive), moist (with phlegm, i.e., productive) or due to allergy.
All individuals with asthmas should be monitored by a health professional.
